LOS CAMPESINOS! are a joyous, high energy seven person indie pop band from Cardiff, Wales. Their
name roughly translates as "The Farmers" (or "The Peasants") in Spanish. Their recently released album “Hold On Now, Youngster . . . .” (Wichita/Arts & Crafts) contains addictive sing-along and is loaded "with hooks, crescendos, and clever turns of phrase nearly always in the right place.” Pitchfork.
Los Campesinos! will be headlining The Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 15th and The Bowery Ballroom on May 19th. www.myspace.com/loscampesinos
Last year, Brooklyn-based PELA released its breakout album -- "Anytown Graffiti" (Great Society)-- which was named by KEXP's listeners as one of the Top 20 albums of the year. The band creates "pastoral, American punk", that has been described as "charming, humble, passionate, and achingly sad all at once." (Pop Matters). Known for their incredible live shows, including three straight sold out shows at Bowery Ballroom, PELA kicks off a three week tour with an appearance at Kidrockers.
Rogue Wave creates “blissful indie-pop tunes [that] are as affecting as they are catchy.” Dusted Magazine. The band’s thoughtful, acoustic guitar driven songs have a dreamy quality reminiscent of former label mates The Shins and touring partner Nada Surf (whose singer appears on the new record).
Rogue Wave songs appear in many movies and TV shows, including Weeds, The O.C., Friday Night Lights and the soundtracks for Superman 3 and Napoleon Dynamite.
The band headlines Irving Plaza, April 12th (the night before the April 13th Kidrockers show) as part of a US and European tour in support of its latest album, Asleep at Heaven’s Gate, which was released recently by Jack Johnson’s Brushfire. Records.
Led by brothers Hays and Ryan Holladay, The Epochs, on their recently released debut album, “blend electronic textures and samples with decidedly analog pleasures: strummed acoustic guitar, vintage keyboard sounds, a small string section, inviting blue-eyed soul singing. The songs are cohesive, with melodies and arrangements that belong to each other. For all their modern touches, these songs have vintage virtues.” Pop Matters

In less than two years, Ra Ra Riot have gone from Syracuse University music students to headlining and selling out The Bowery Ballroom (MArch 7, 2008).
"Seeing Ra Ra Riot is like being on the brink of something deliciously inexplicable. The cutie-pie six-member band (whose instrumentation is comprised of keyboards, strings, guitars and drums) circle each other onstage like prize-fighters, changing places onstage to bring a sense of drama to their orchestral-tinged indie-rock, as though they're sweating something out." LEVY just returned from a European tour in support of its recent release GLORIOUS (One Little Indian) -- "an album that deserves heaps and heaps of praise" J.S. "New York Troubadour goes wonderfully pop" Thomas Green. "The euphoric strumming and heartrating drums from these New Yorkers have us feeling glad to be a live and listening to their single" NME "Levy is the best band out of New York in years" Tim Wheeler, Ash

Tad Kubler plays lead guitar in The Hold Steady. Rolling Stone Magazine called “Boys and Girls In America” one of the Top Ten albums of 2006 and the band was named Blender Magazine’s 2006 “Band of The Year.” In November 2007, the band wrapped up a 16 month world tour in front of three thousand people at New York’s Terminal 5. Originally from Janesville, Wisconsin, Tad lives in Brooklyn where The Hold Steady is currently recording its new album.
Langhorne Slim and The War Eagles are leaders of an emerging sound that "offer a sardonic, modern take on traditional folk, country and blues." (S. Mason) Like touring mates The Avett Brothers and Lucero, Langhorne brings the passion, grit and urgency of The Pogues and Velvets to old time roots music. The band is about to release its much anticipated follow-up to their major label EP "Engine." (V2, 2006) Their song "The Electric Love Letter" can be heard in the highly acclaimed indie film "Waitress" (Fox Searchlight, 2007) starring Keri Russell.
"... teenage kicks delivered by actual teenagers: Two recent high school grads bash out joyously hormonal power pop behind a frontman who was recently their teacher. Like School of Rock with more Kinks albums on the syllabus." Spin

"Sassy American rock & roll with low slung guitars and economically short power-pop riffs."

The band released two more albums and toured the country with indie rock staples Luna, Mates of State, Ted Leo, Spoon and the Wrens. “Palomar makes indie-pop sound like it wandered through a cloud of gamma radiation and wound up with superpowers: lurid muscles, torn jeans, the whole nine.” Pitchfork.

PHONOGRAPH has carved out a niche for itself that falls somewhere between indie-rock, experimental electronica and alt-country, while still staying true to the sounds of stripped-down Americana. Led by singer/guitarist Matthew Welsh, Phonograph formed in 2005 after the rest of the group — guitar, pedal steel, bass/keyboards and drums — was introduced to him through an engineer at the studio where Welsh was recording. A chance meeting with Wilco bassist John Stirratt landed Phonograph a slot as an opener on Wilco's national tour, where it earned consistent praise for its inventive songwriting and captivating stage presence. HARLEM SHAKES was New York Magazine’s favorite local act of 2006. “Brooklyn five-piece act named itself after a beloved dance move. The group's indie pop tunes make listeners bounce and shimmy” (Spin.com artist of the day 2/26/07). “…think Housemartins meet the Shins with Beach Boys harmonies and a dash of Eno-style weirdness. With Burning Birthdays (EP released 2/2007), Harlem Shakes have opened up their hearts, minds, and melodies, and rewritten the archetypal pop song... all while delivering what will be the freshest and smartest sound of 2007." "The BLOODSUGARS raise yours, in a good way, with their sweet, bouncy synth-pop." (TONY). The New York band has “inherited the lighthearted heartaches of The Cure, Elvis Costello's crooning rockabilly, with still enough room for some Hall and Oates and anarchist punk action. . . . Live, these guys exude an irresistible energy.” (Deli Magazine)
